Method of authenticating a user (10) of a terminal (14) connected to the Internet, the method consisting in transmitting the identifier and the password of the user to an authentication server (20), the authorization to access the website being provided to the user after verification of the identifier and of the password of the user which were previously recorded in a database (22) connected to the server. To do this, the user is moreover provided with a mobile telephone of the type adapted for entering the password and communicating it to the server by way of the Internet network, and the password is composed of a sequence of predetermined images displayed on the screen of the mobile telephone, the images being able to be entered by the user only after the latter has transmitted the identifier of the user to the server.
