The instrument has an instrument head (4) provided at a distal shaft end and with which a distal end region (3) of an elongated shaft (1) is bent. A control unit for controlling curvature is provided within the shaft and actuated by an operation part (2) at a proximal shaft end. The distal end region of the shaft is bent in a plane, in which a longitudinal axis (5) of the shaft is provided. The distal end region of the shaft is bent in two directions to the longitudinal axis of the shaft. Two resilient bendable rods are arranged within the distal end region of the shaft.
