The device has a transparent upper housing shell (1) and a plastic injection-molded shell body (6), where a plastic film (5) covers the outside of the shell body and forms a viewing window for a capacitive touchscreen (3). The shell body is pre-formed and back-molded with the plastic film for enclosing a control panel such that the capacitive touchscreen is operated through the viewing window formed by the plastic film. Spacers (7) are provided for positioning the upper housing shell in front of the capacitive touchscreen. An independent claim is also included for a method for manufacturing an upper housing shell for a device for operating an electronic controller.
