The device (1) has a neck cooling unit (10) comprising a cooling body (15) fixed to neck (4) of a patient (2) in slip-proof manner, where the body cools brain-supply carotid artery. A supply unit (11) is spatially separated from the cooling unit and provided for supplying chillness or energy to the cooling unit. The body is crossed by a cooling medium channel (20), where fluid cooling medium e.g. 1,1,2-trichloro-1,2,2-trifluro ethane, flows through the channel, and the supply unit has a pump (30) for conveying the medium through the channel, where the body is made of flexible material. An independent claim is also included for a neck cooling unit.
