The surgical microscope has an insight (16), a microscope body (14) and a beam splitter (15) arranged between the insight and the microscope body. The microscope body has an extension system, where the beam splitter is equipped with an optical attachment (19). The microscope body is connected with the beam splitter by a pivot joint (30). A rotational axis of the pivot joint corresponds with a central axis of the microscope body, two stereoscopic observation beam paths are provided. The rotational axis of the pivot joint is arranged in the center between both the beam paths.
