The method involves emitting sequence of RF layer excitation pulses in first time interval. An initial RF refocusing pulse is emitted in second time interval according to first or last excitation pulse in sequence of RF layer excitation pulses. A final RF refocusing pulse is emitted in third time interval according to initial RF refocusing pulse, such that third time interval is twice longer than second time interval. The width of RF refocusing pulses is selected to capture a portion of excitation volumes of all excited refocusing pulses, for generating temporally separate echo signals. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) pulse sequence for controlling magnetic resonance imaging system; (2) control device for controlling magnetic resonance imaging system; (3) magnetic resonance imaging system; and (4) computer program product for controlling magnetic resonance imaging system.
