The method involves reading maximum temperature spreading of a high-capacity battery (120). The maximum temperature spreading of the battery is compared with a pre-defined maximum permissible temperature spreading. A manipulated variable is determined to control maximum temperature in a battery cooling system (100) and the maximum temperature spreading of the battery dependant on an operating point, where the maximum temperature represents a value of highest battery temperature. A controllable pump (160) is switched on if the maximum temperature is larger than an upper limit value. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a device for execution of a method for operating point-dependant control of temperature of a battery cooling system (2) a computer program comprising a program code for executing steps of a method for operating point-dependant control of temperature of a battery cooling system.
