The method involves arranging a frequency shift keying (FSK) radar apparatus (1) that receives measurement signals within a measuring period to measuring time points. A radar radiation (11) is emitted to form a radar cone (12). A specific position magnitude (32) per measuring time point is set from radial distances associated to a vehicle (3). Velocity-normalized length of a discontinuity portion is determined with vehicle velocity. The determined length is compared with stored typical velocity-normalized lengths for various vehicle classes to classify the vehicle.
