The laboratory apparatus (11) has a sensor device (19) which detects the position and/or movement of the lab device. An evaluation device detects whether the laboratory device exceeds predetermined amount of movement on the basis of detected position and/or movement. A control device automatically triggers the safety-related reaction when the predetermined amount of movement is exceeded. The safety-related reaction comprises physical size, in particular frequency and/or rotation speed, and the movement to be recognized, in particular resonant vibration causing excitation to change.
