The method involves determining the entirety of the surface structures of a predetermined section of the material surface with a profile depth determination method and displaying as the overall profile. A mathematical-morphological calculation program is applied on the data set of the overall profile and a rolling line is obtained over the overall profile. The total area, which is limited by the rolling line and the overall profile, is calculated and defined as a parameter.
