The tool (10) comprises a weld seam (22), an upper tool half (14) and a lower tool half (16) that are movably arranged relative to each other and between which the reshaped sheet metal blanks (12) are received. One of the tool halves comprises a recess (26) for receiving the sheet metal blank inserted into the tool with the weld seam. The width (d1) of the recess is greater than or equal to the width (d2) of the weld seam.
