The optical filter (10) has a resonant waveguide grating (14), which has grating periodic structures that are periodically arranged in a grating period direction. The grating periodic structures have a grating structure element (14a) having a constant height perpendicular to the grating periodic structure in each case. An effective refractive index profile changing in the direction of the grating period is formed in each grating period structure. The grating periodic structures have a periodic length, which is smaller than the wavelength of an electromagnetic wave (16a,16b) to be filtered.
