For the thermal insulation of a high-temperature chamber (12) with a high-temperature energy store arranged therein, which converts a fresh process gas into process exhaust gas: - the fresh process gas is preheated before it is introduced into the high-temperature chamber (12); - Process exhaust gas exiting from the high-temperature chamber (12) is used for preheating, and - the process exhaust gas is passed along the outside of the high-temperature chamber (12) after the fresh process gas has been preheated.
