The method involves estimating a period, in which no positive drive torque is requested or only positive driving torque is requested under utilization of signal phase information for signal, where the positive driving torque is smaller or equal to threshold. The switching off of the drive motor is decided when approaching to a traffic light based on the estimated period. An arrival time of the vehicle at traffic lights or at a reference point at the traffic lights is calculated, where the arrival time of the signal phase is determined.
