PURPOSE: A method for detecting a ground fault of a power distribution line using wavelet transform is provided to detect the ground fault through wavelet transform signal analysis about voltage-current data of a transient state. CONSTITUTION: Wavelet transform is performed with an original signal of a voltage and a current caused by occurrence of a fault (S102). After a ground fault is detected by a signal detected through a fourth step low pass filter (S104), a fundamental wave about a coefficient value of the fourth step low pass filter is extracted (S105). A fault point is estimated by using an extracted previously registered wave (S110). After a high resistance ground fault is detected by a signal detected through a first step high pass filter (S107), the fundamental wave about the coefficient value of the fourth step low pass filter is extracted (S108). After tracing an impedance trace of the fundamental wave (S109), the fault point is estimated.
