PURPOSE: A method for encoding a binary image by using an adaptive template, a device thereof, a decoding method thereof, and a device thereof are provided to efficiently reflect correlation between symbols through generation of the template, thereby improving calculation complexity and compression efficiency of binary arithmetic coding.;CONSTITUTION: A correlation obtainment unit obtains correlation between each previous pixel and each surrounding pixel in a window by applying the window to the previous pixel and surrounding pixels of the previous pixel(1010). A correlation accumulation unit determines a relative position in the window which the correlation with the previous pixels is high based on the obtained correlation(1020). A template updating unit generates a template based on the relative position(1030).
