PURPOSE: A profile information based motion estimation apparatus and a method thereof are provided to estimate a motion vector by producing a profile image about a reference image and a current image and comparing profile information which is not total pixels with the candidate motion vector of each block.;CONSTITUTION: A block profile calculator(140) generates a reference block profile of an in-reference image block through a horizontal profile image of a reference image and a vertical profile image. The block profile calculator generates the current block profile of an in-current image block through the horizontal profile image of a current image and a vertical profile image.
