Filter material comprises limestone sand (= 60 wt.%, based on the total weight of the filter material), exhibiting the grading curve, which is asymmetrical and the grading curve (in semi-logarithmic representation) increases steadily in a monotonous manner, where the content of clay and silt in the limestone sand is = 7 wt.%, and the ratio of the mean sand content to the proportion of clay, silt and fine sand is = 2. Independent claims are also included for: (1) a cleaning system for yard drains, preferably biogas plants comprising at least one filter, where the filter is bottom filter having the above mentioned filter material; (2) purifying yard drains, preferably biogas plants, comprising use of the above mentioned cleaning system; and (3) a plaster of the joint material and/or the bedding material comprising the above mentioned filter material.
