A biodiversity evaluation index computation device of an embodiment contains a first computation unit, a second computation unit and a third computation unit. The first computation unit references a vegetation database and computes a vegetation/inhabitant animal coefficient that represents the diversity of plant species and/or inhabitant animal species. The second computation unit references a nature reserve geography database, and on the basis of a nature reserve type and the vegetation/inhabitant animal coefficient, computes a biodiversity value that represents the degree of biodiversity abundance. The third computation unit references a mine database, and for each of multiple mines, computes a biodiversity evaluation index that represents the impact of mining on biodiversity. The third computation unit computes the biodiversity evaluation index by adding together the biodiversity values of areas contained in a mine impact zone that indicates a zone in which mining impacts the surrounding environment.
