Provided is a chelate-forming fiber which is capable of trapping and recovering metal ions even in cases where the metal ions and a chelating agent are coexistent in a solution to be treated. This chelate-forming fiber is characterized in that a substituent represented by formula (1) is introduced into each molecule that constitutes the fiber.(In formula (1), each of D1 and D2 represents a carboxy group-containing substituent or a hydrogen atom; each of A1 and A2 represents a carboxy group-containing substituent, a hydrogen atom or the like; each of R1 and R2 represents a C1-5 alkylene group; and l represents an integer of 1-6. In this connection, a substituent represented by formula (1) has at least one carboxy group in the structure thereof.)
