The present invention relates to a system and a method for monitoring a first object that moves on the surface of a body of water or is immersed in said body by way of a second motorized object. The monitoring system is characterized in that the second object (2) comprises propulsion means (6) and also control means (MCU 2, 30) for said propulsion means (6), these control means (MCU 2, 30) being able, on the basis of the geographical location of the first (1) and second (2) objects, to establish the course and the distance to be covered by the second object (2) in order to follow the first object (1). Application in the aquatic or subaquatic field.
