The invention relates to a composite material structure (11) which is formedby a plurality of layers (13, 15, 17, 19, 21, 23). The invention includes: an opticalfibre (25) which is used for structural monitoring and which is at least partiallyembedded in a surface layer (13) of the structure (11); and means for insulatingthe areas of the optical fibre (25) that may require repair in relation to the surfacelayer (13) containing same, said means taking the form of a protective cover (27)and upper and lower separator films (31, 33) in particular. The invention alsorelates to a method for repairing the aforementioned areas of the optical fibre,comprising the following steps consisting in: removing the protective cover(27) and the upper separator film (31), extracting the area from the structure,repairing the optical fibre, reinstalling the repaired area, and providinga new protective cover (27).
