A Non-Thermal Plasma (NTP) and Integral Catalyst System (ICS) is used to treat vent air containing Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) and/or Halogenated Volatile Organic Compounds (HVOC), some of which may be odorous, and/or fine organic particulate (smoke) emissions to be released into the environment by commercial and/or industrial air venting. The system utilizes one or more dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) electrodes and dielectrics to develop one or more NTP fields so as to create sufficient Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS), hydroxyl species and other highly ionized molecules and atomic species in combination with catalytic functions so as to cause the oxidation and/or reduction of VOC's and/or HVOCs and/or fine organic particulate contaminants in the air streams to be decomposed to simpler, non pollutant, non odorous compounds that can be subsequently released into the environment. The system works by drawing atmospheric pressure air and/or gas, which may or may not be contaminated, through the NTP fields that are created by Dielectric Barrier Discharge (DBD) apparatus and mixing this air with the air and/or gas to be treated or by passing all air and/or gas to be treated through the DBD cells or any combination thereof. The DBD apparatus is designed with a catalyst material integral to the DBD cells and an optional additional catalyst immediately after the cells and is designed to pass large scale air flows typical of commercial or industrial processes. When large volumes of gas and/or high VOC and/or HVOCs and/or contaminant load in combination with large gas volumes must be treated multiple units can be combined in parallel and/or series and/or series parallel to treat the gas.
