A METHOD TO CONTAIN THE SHATTERING TENDENCY OF NATURAL COKE WHEN CHARGED IN A WORKING LOW SHAFT BLAST FURNACE AS PARTIAL REPLACEMENT OF METALLURGICAL COKEBY ENCASING ITS LUMPS IN A THICK MINERAL PASTE CONTAINING IRON ORE FINES COKE FINES STEEL SLAG FINES WITH CEMENT AS BINDER.
Pig iron making through fesax&x blast furnace process needs significant amount of metallurgical coke along with iron ore and fluxes. In India there is scarcity of metallurgical coals. Hence, there is need of martial replacement of coke in the blast furnace process. In some coal mines, a partially made coke by natural processes also occurs called Natural coke. This natural coke shatters to pieces when charged in a furnace and heated. The present invention provides a method wherein the natural coke Limps are encased in a thick mineral paste ontaining specified quantities of iron ore fines, coke fines Steel slag fines and Cement as binder to form briquettes with water. Briquettes of this mineral paste encasing natural coke lumps are charged in low shaft blast furnace to partially replace normal raw materials. The encasement by mineral paste contains the shattering tendency of natural coke till it is melted in the furnace and natural coke burnt in air blast.
