PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an Ni-containing steel slab which has less surface cracks and contains Ni of 7.5 to 10 mass%, and to provide a continuous casting method for casting the Ni-containing steel slab. PSOLUTION: The Ni-containing steel slab contains Ni of 7.5 to 10.0 mass% and is cast by continuous casting, and is characterized in that a solidification nucleus generation density in the surface of the slab is 0.6 pieces/mmSP2/SP. In the continuous casting method for the Ni-containing steel, the casting is performed by adding mold powder whose viscosity at 1,300C is 1.0 Pa s (10 poise) to the inside of a mold or by vibrating a mold at a frequency of 80 cycles per min, thereby controlling the solidification nucleus generation density in the surface of the slab to 0.6 pieces/mmSP2/SP.
