PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water purification device that has a simple configuration for suitably purifying water in a closed area, and to provide a water purification method using the same.SOLUTION: The water purification device includes: a water intake and treatment tank 2 in which water in a purification target area W is taken through an suction port 21; an underwater pump 3 for sucking up water from the water intake and treatment tank 2; a pipe 4 serving as a flow path for the water sucked up by the underwater pump 3; and a biological treatment tank 6 for carrying out denitrification and nitrification treatment. The pipe 4 is divided into a circulation side and a discharge side. A pipe 41 on the circulation side is provided at a tip end thereof with a nozzle 5. The nozzle 5 narrows a fluid cross section to increase the flow rate of the water to drive the water into water from the water surface of the water intake and treatment tank 2. The water passing through a discharge side pipe 42 is discharged into the purification target area outside the water intake and treatment tank 2.
