PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and device for detecting the position of a package product, which recognizes the package product arranged within a case without being affected by bag distortion, and detects the position in a short period of time.SOLUTION: The device 10 for detecting the position of the package product includes a learning means 13 and a recognition means 17. The learning means 13 obtains luminance distribution features of sample images 12 for respective patterns appearing in the surface of a plurality of samples extracted from a group of the package product, where an article is enclosed in a storage bag having a pattern presented on the surface. The recognition means 17 obtains a similar luminance divided image similar to the luminance distribution feature from a plurality of divided images 16 cut out of a camera image 15 imaging the state where the package products are arranged in the case, and obtains the product position in the case for the package product, based on the position in the camera image 15 for the similar luminance divided image.
