PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rare earth complex fluorescent substance which has high durability to light and oxygen and is excited with blue or near UV light. PSOLUTION: This rare earth complex fluorescent substance contains a ligand represented by either of formulas of Figures. Therein, RSP1/SPto RSP3/SPare each a monovalent substituent, provided that at least one of the RSP1/SPto RSP3/SPis represented by -X-A. RSP4/SP, RSP5/SP, RSP4'/SP, and RSP5'/SPare each a monovalent substituent, provided that at least one of them is a group represented by -X-A. RSP6/SPis a divalent bonding group. X is a direct bond or a divalent bonding group. A is a heterocyclic group, wherein the molecular orbital energy of the highest occupied orbital determined by a molecular orbital calculation of a heterocyclic compound forming the heterocyclic group is larger than that of a benzene group.
