PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cleaning method which allows easy adsorption and removing of harmful substances from water, soil or the like polluted by harmful substances containing radioactive iodine and by which such a treatment is performed at a low cost.;SOLUTION: Charcoal formed from all plants is used to remove harmful substances containing radioactive iodine polluting a surface and a deep portion of water and soil. The charcoal is porous and has pores each having a diameter of 10-200 Å (angstrom), and the surface area of each pore is 900-1,300 m2/g in total. Consequently, the harmful substances containing radioactive iodine are adsorbed in pores having the large surface area. The harmful substances containing radioactive iodine are removed by utilizing the characteristics of the charcoal, concretely, by spraying or burying the charcoal in water and soil or soil surface, polluted by the harmful substances, and by adsorbing the harmful substances in the charcoal. In order to recover health of a domestic animal or the like, the charcoal is processed into an easily eatable form or size and fed to the domestic animal.
