PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an active constituent which exhibits a remarkable activation effect against an enzyme involved in a urea cycle, has activating action of the urea cycle and suppressant action of hyperammonemia, and has no problem in safety and utility.SOLUTION: There are provided: an activating agent of one or two or more enzymes selected from a group consisting of arginase I, carbamoyl-phosphate synthetase I and argininosuccinate synthetase I; a urea cycle activating agent; and hyperammonemia improving agent, each containing lactoferrin as an active constituent; and a method for giving one or two or more effects selected from arginase activation effect, a urea cycle activation effect, and a hyperammonemia improvement effect to food or feed by adding lactoferrin to the food or feed.
