The method involves dipping a stainless steel dental drill in a sodium hydroxide and/or acid bath for a preset duration. A metal layer is deposited on the drill using a physical vapor deposition process and/or a chemical vapor deposition process and/or a plasma-assisted chemical vapor deposition process, by depositing a chromium/zirconium nitride layer on the drill. The drill is placed in a plastic/titanium slide tray. A voltage of between 5 and 90 volts is applied to the drill dipped in an aqueous anodizing bath to obtain an oxide deposit of gray, blue, yellow or purple color on the drill. The acid bath comprises mineral acid solution or hydrochloric acid and/or nitric acid and/or sulfuric acid. An independent claim is also included for a stainless steel dental drill.
