Oxy-combustion and purification of residual gas obtained from combustion and oxy-combustion, by partially removing oxygen contained in residual gas in presence of catalytic bed and providing oxygen-depleted residual gas to desiccation unit
The process comprises partially removing oxygen contained in a residual gas (7) by combustion in presence of a catalytic bed in a combustion unit (23) fed by a fuel, providing oxygen-depleted residual gas to a desiccation unit (31) for partially removing water, and providing dried residual gas from the desiccation unit to a unit operating at a subambient temperature, where the combustion contains nitrogen (15-60 mole%), carbon dioxide, water (0.1-10 mole%), oxygen, hydrogen (less than 0.5 mole%), carbon monoxide (less than 0.5 mole%) and methane (less than 0.5 mole%). The process comprises partially removing oxygen contained in a residual gas (7) by combustion in presence of a catalytic bed in a combustion unit (23) fed by a fuel, providing oxygen-depleted residual gas to a desiccation unit (31) for partially removing water, providing dried residual gas from the desiccation unit to a unit operating at a subambient temperature or separating the residual gas for producing a fluid rich in carbon dioxide and nitrogen and a fluid depleted in carbon dioxide, and purifying the fluid depleted in carbon dioxide for producing a flow rich in nitrogen (43). The residual gas is: treated in a treatment unit provided in an upstream of the combustion unit for removing a part of water and/or for cooling and/or removing a contaminant; and compressed by a compressor provided in a downstream of the treatment unit and in the upstream of the combustion unit. The fluid depleted in carbon dioxide is purified by permeation for producing a flow rich in nitrogen and a flow depleted in nitrogen. The nitrogen-depleted flow is compressed by a compressor. An oxy-combustion boiler is fed by a flow containing oxygen (20-90 mole% or 30-80 mole%) and by combustion, and produces water vapor and/or electricity and residual gas. A rate of recirculation of residual gas towards the oxy-combustion is less than 60%.
