The method involves determining set point of flow rate of fuel injected into an exhaust line (4) upstream of an oxidation catalyst (6), from regulation parameters. A regulation process is performed continuously in a degraded mode so as to be reconfigured to reduce temperature of a particle filter (7) when one of sensors (9) measuring a variable used for determining one of the regulation parameters is faulty. Influence of dynamic correction of the set point is reduced if the sensor determining temperature existing between a diesel engine (1) and the catalyst is faulty. An independent claim is also included for a motor vehicle.
