The system (5) has a communication unit (16) comprising a communication mode in which a socket (9) is in communication with another socket (6) and/or each of other sockets by a series of pairs of contactors and in communication with RJ45sockets (7, 8) by another series of pairs of contactors. The former socket is in communication with the latter socket and each of other sockets by the series of pairs of contactors in another communication mode. A communication unit switching unit (19) is arranged for switching the former socket from the former to the latter communication mode. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a voice, data and image (VDI) installation comprising a remote connection device and multimedia signals distribution and communication system (2) a method for switching a communication unit of multimedia signals distribution and communication system.
