The torsional vibration damper (100) has a drive-side primary mass (102) and an output-side secondary mass (104), where an active spring or damper device is arranged between the primary mass and secondary mass. The spring or damper device has an energy storage device (108) and a friction device. A section of the vibration damper is assigned a safety medium which is engaged axially into a spring element (116,118,120,124,126).
