The method involves detecting a pedal position for controlling longitudinal dynamics of a motor car (1). A relative state (5) of the motor car is detected relative to a standing object (3). Collision with the object is avoided by automatically controlling the longitudinal dynamics independence of the relative state. A kick-down of pedals (15) is detected by a kick-down switch (17) or by completely depressing the pedals independent of an input of a rider (13) for suppressing automatic steering.
