The bicontinuous, interpenetrating composite comprises a semiconducting organic phase, a semiconducting particulate phase, p-n junctions at interfaces between the semiconducting organic phase and the semiconducting particulate phase, and a processing aid. The semiconducting organic phase and the semiconducting particulate phase interpenetrate are bicontinuous. The semiconducting organic phase is the p-type and/or n-type organic semiconductors. The semiconducting particulate phase is n-type and p-type particulate semiconductors. The p-n junctions include a phenylene bound. The bicontinuous, interpenetrating composite comprises a semiconducting organic phase, a semiconducting particulate phase, p-n junctions at interfaces between the semiconducting organic phase and the semiconducting particulate phase, and a processing aid. The semiconducting organic phase and the semiconducting particulate phase interpenetrate are bicontinuous. The semiconducting organic phase is p-type and/or n-type organic semiconductors. The semiconducting particulate phase is n-type and p-type particulate semiconductors. The p-n junctions include a phenylene bound to the particulate phase. The semiconducting particulate phase comprises first and second particles that have different band gaps and a diameter of 1-100 nm. The first particles have an amount of surface treatment that is greater than the second particles. Independent claims are included for: (1) a photovoltaic device; and (2) a method of manufacturing a bicontinuous, interpenetrating composite.
