The method involves carrying out a modeling of the charging state (16) by a system model (17) of the ultracapacitor storage unit (10) corresponding to the parameter set as model parameter vector and generates a status vector describing the status of the ultracapacitor storage unit by the controller. The status of the system model of the real control path is tracked by a status monitor (18), in which a model deviation between an ultracapacitor voltage (u-uc) evaluated by the system model and the measured ultracapacitor voltage is minimized in a differential state vector (Delta-x).
