The energy absorption element (10) is arranged in vehicle longitudinal direction (14) in front of corresponding bumper crossbeam, to convert impact energy into deformation energy, when an accidental force is applied with region-wise deformation of energy absorption element. A hollow cross-section (16) is formed in installation position of energy absorption element in longitudinal direction, to limit the partially opposing wall regions (24,26). An independent claim is included for pedestrian protection device.
