The device has spool housing (11) and thread catching device that is associated with spool housing. The spool spindle is associated with a transfer device (3) for guiding the thread back and forth and an auxiliary device (15) for guiding thread when catching and laying down the thread. A stationary pin thread guide (19) is associated with the metal guide (16) of auxiliary device in the parking position, while interacting with a guide shaft (20) for guiding the thread with the guide edge or the guide groove (18) of the metal guide. The auxiliary device is provided with displaceable metal guides having guide edge or guide groove for guiding the thread. The metal guide associated with transfer device is guided between a transfer position in the area of the transfer device and a parking position to the side next to the transfer device.
