The method involves passing the sound waves with different frequencies in a measuring section and determining the phase angles of the sound waves with respect to the associated reference signals of the frequencies. The approximation of the propagation velocity of the sound waves in the measuring section is determined based on the measured phase angles. The measuring window is positioned based on the propagation velocity approximation.
