The method involves obtaining sensor data by detecting force exerted by a person (P) on a seat furniture e.g. chair (1) or stool, by force measurement using a force sensor (6) that is attached at the seat furniture. Another sensor data is obtained by detecting a movement of the person during travel, by distance measurement using optical sensor devices e.g. laser scanners (11, 13). The sensor data are evaluated by an evaluating device (10) to obtain a mobility parameter to mobility of the person. The mobility parameter comprises walking speed, stride length, step size, cadence, track width, immobilization time, momentum time, the immobilization ratio, gait symmetry, equilibrium of the person in sitting, torso shift of the person when rising, the sitting duration of the person, parameters related to dropping of the person in the seat and/or seat furniture or relapse of the person in the seat and/or seat furniture. An independent claim is also included for a device for automatic detection of mobility of a person, comprising sensor devices.
