The method involves positioning cooperative and uncooperative radar detectors (5, 6) in an environment of a charging position (17), where the radar detectors have a radar antenna e.g. omnidirectional antenna. Another cooperative radar detector is positioned in the environment of the charging position. Position data of an electric car (1) are determined from a measured distance (16) and measured angles (11, 12) based on the charging position, where the position data serve as a basis for starting the electric car.
