The method involves irradiating the aviation fuel with a light source (1), and detection the light, which is scattered by the aviation fuel. A signal characterizing the content of the water in the aviation fuel is emitted. A spectrometer (24), particularly a charge-coupled device detector, is used for detection. An independent claim is also included for a device for detecting water in an aviation fuel.
