Disposing mercury, comprises chemically reacting metallic mercury with sulfur using beta -sulfur, by a liquid-liquid reaction at 120-150[deg] C, in a closable rotating reaction vessel, at a sulfur excess of 10%, based on the sulfur content, in the presence of an alkaline chemical, and in a discontinuous process, where the reaction vessel is a landfill container.
