The process for producing an ultrahard protective coating (2) on components (1) of a safety equipment, comprises providing the component of the safety equipment comprising a surface to be coated, and applying a coating mixture to the surface by a thermal spraying method, where the coating mixture is melted or partially melted and inseparably connected with the component of the safety equipment. The component comprises a material consisting of metals, metal alloys, glasses, plastics and/or natural materials. The coating mixture comprises hard materials and a binder phase (5-40 wt.%). The process for producing an ultrahard protective coating (2) on components (1) of a safety equipment, comprises providing the component of the safety equipment comprising a surface to be coated, and applying a coating mixture to the surface by a thermal spraying method, where the coating mixture is melted or partially melted and inseparably connected with the component of the safety equipment. The component comprises a material consisting of metals, metal alloys, glasses, plastics and/or natural materials. The coating mixture comprises hard materials and a binder phase (5-40 wt.%). The hard materials have a particle diameter of 5-120 mu m. The binder phase comprises a material consisting of metals, self-fluxing alloys, metal alloys, ceramics, and/or polymers. The thickness of the ultrahard protective layer is 5-2000 mu m. The hardness of the ultrahard protective coating is 1100 HV 50. The thermal spraying process consists of flame spraying, arc spraying, plasma spraying, cold spraying or high velocity flame spraying. An independent claim is included for a component of safety equipment.
