Applying a coating of nonferrous metal on a surface of a first component containing cast iron or steel, comprises placing a formed part by deforming the first component into a mold, and pressing a sheet-like component (5) made of nonferrous metal on the surface of the first component, or pressing the first component and a sheet-like component against each other such that at least the sheet-like component melts at least on its contact surface, preferably adjacent contact surfaces of the first component and the sheet-component melts. Applying a coating of nonferrous metal on a surface of a first component containing cast iron or steel, comprises placing a formed part by deforming the first component into a mold, and pressing a sheet-like component (5) made of nonferrous metal on the surface of the first component, or pressing the first component and a sheet-like component against each other such that at least the sheet-like component melts at least on its contact surface, preferably adjacent contact surfaces of the first component and the sheet-component melts. The first component is a ferrous metal made of cast iron or steel. The free surface of the coating forms a first sliding surface for contacting a second sliding surface of a second component.
