The method involves generating a difference frequency wave in the mid-infrared wavelength range corresponding to the difference in the frequency mixture of two input waves of a nonlinear-optical crystal (8) by phase matching. The two input waves are produced by the signal and the idler waves of the same continual pumped optical parametric oscillator (1). The oscillator pumps the waves in the range of 1000-1100 Nm. An independent claim is included for tunable laser light source for producing continuous-wave laser radiation in mid-infrared wavelength range.
