The method involves intercepting the data traffic on the field bus (DP) by the field bus interface, in which the data traffic from cyclic and/or acyclic communication is performed through the field bus. The polling of demand-related diagnostic information is performed over the field bus by the field bus interface. The queried diagnostic information is detected by the field bus interface. An independent claim is included for computer program product for operating field bus interface.
