Producing structures of ion gel, comprises (a) mixing at least one monomer with at least one ionic liquid to a printable liquid, (b) generating the structure by printing the printable liquid using an inkjet printing technology, and (c) polymer forming using polymerization, polyaddition or polycondensation of the structure. An independent claim is also included for the structure comprising at least one layer made of at least one ion gel, where (a) the ion gel is first made from printable liquid using inkjet printing technology, and the printable liquid comprises at least one ionic liquid and monomers, which as a result of subsequent exposure to energy are solidified into the gel by polymer formation, (b) at least one ionic liquid is physically and/or chemically bound in the ion gel, and (c) the structure of continuous homogeneous ion gel layers, which is built directly onto a substrate, is always free of solvents, temperature-change-related delays, temperature-change-related shrinkage and/or swelling.
